En julio de 2012, AENOR publicó la norma UNE 58451, relativa a la formación de los operadores de carretillas de manutención hasta 10.000 kg. La Norma UNE lleva en vigor unos años, pero la norma actual tiene poco que ver con la antigua, ya que ha sido modificada en dos ocasiones.
En la norma se establecen los tipos vehículos conducidos y la duración mínima de la formación. El objetivo principal es proporcionar la formación necesaria a la persona para una utilización y una conducción segura de la carretilla.
